Babs and Beau’s Journey
Notes From Our Staff
Beau had a big day today!
I had him in the daycare yard for a little play time and then we got to work.
Went for a walk out in the wind—lots of distractions out there including a reactive dog and several bunnies and he did a super job staying focused on me with minimal guidance and help! We worked in some desk time where he lays at our front desk people’s feet and keeps them company—seemingly benign work, but its building his impulse control and attention span because he’s still working and has a job to do while he’s there with them.
I pulled him out for some work in the lobby with close in distractions and finished the day with my Basic Obedience class.
I finished off by working on his “leave it” because he’s been in the habit of grabbing things off the ground and I want to get him thinking about it before he goes and does it.
By the end of it, he’d definitely hit his threshold for work, but ultimately I’m so impressed with him! I can see him really thinking hard about what he’s doing and making really good choices about staying engaged with his job instead of taking off after distractions or doing whatever he wants.
